Jerome grew up in Detroit, listening to the news on a yellow Panasonic ball and chain radio his mom gave him for his birthday. There was a lot of world news that intrigued him as a young Detroiter. Part of what WDET does is open that connection to the world. You can be at home listening to faraway voices and big ideas, shared in a way that feels human and accessible.
WDET is powered first and foremost by you, by our community and our neighbors who each give what they can to keep it going.
We’re always trying new things, but we’re also keeping our roots planted deep right here in Detroit.
Listen to Jerome as he shares the story of the Panasonic radio that led him to the WDET newsroom.
