GOP Presidential Candidates Gear Up for Detroit Debate

The Republican presidential candidates debate in Detroit tonight.

Recent polls show Donald Trump holding a double-digit lead over rivals Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio in Michigan…

Michigan is seen as the start of a possible last stand for Ohio Governor John Kasich, who hopes to do well both here and in his neighboring home state a week later.

Detroit was also viewed as a possible venue to revive the fortunes of native son Ben Carson until he took himself out of contention yesterday.

The forum could become something of a referendum on Michigan Governor Rick Snyder.

The Republican was widely praised for reaching across partisan lines to shepherd traditionally-Democratic Detroit through bankruptcy.

But he’s also been harshly criticized for failing to prevent lead from tainting the water supply in nearby Flint.
