2015 the Best Year For Auto Sales

Auto industry analysts say 2015 was the best year yet for auto sales. US consumers bought more than 17.4 million cars and trucks last year.

Bernard Swiecki is the Director of Automotive Communities Partnership at the Center for Automotive Research. He says crossover vehicles and trucks were the biggest seller of the year.

That’s partially because they are feeling their oats finically, they can afford these more expensive vehicles; partially, because low fuel prices makes them less expensive to own in the long run. That’s been a very positive development for the industry because these are the vehicles that have higher transaction values,” Swiecki says.

Swiecki says Volkswagen took a big hit at the end of the year with the emission scandal…although sales have been lackluster for a number of years.
