Wayne State Turning Jazzy with New Center

A new Jazz Center will be part of a proposed educational entertainment complex at Detroit’s Wayne State University.

Students at Wayne State University will soon be practicing, performing and learning about all things jazz at a new center being created at the Hilberry Theater.

The building will be remodeled and renamed the Gretchen Valade Jazz Center in honor of the philanthropist who is donating about $7.5 million to make the project a reality.

One of Wayne State’s Board of Governors, Kim Trent, tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter the new jazz center will become part of the university’s effort to create an entertainment education complex.
