Genesee County Declares Public Health Emergency in Flint

Genesee County Board of Commissioners declare a public health emergency in Flint.

Brenda Clack is the Chairperson of the Genesee County Human Services Committee. She says the effects of lead exposure are irreversible.

“We’ve got to do something in terms of correcting that problem now,” Clack says. “Now meant yesterday to me. Because the end result may be one we don’t want to deal with.”

Clack says lead exposure can result in brain damage, behavioral problems, and stunted growth in children.

Residents are advised not to drink the water without a special filter.
