The Michigan Daily Enjoys 125th Anniversary

The University of Michigan’s student-run newspaper will release special-edition.

The University of Michigan’s student-run newspaper will celebrate a milestone today. It’s the Michigan Daily’s 125th year anniversary. The newspaper, which is Washtenaw County’s only daily print publication, will produce a special edition to celebrate the achievement. Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Calfas says because the school doesn’t have a journalism major, the writers aren’t driven by grades or credit.

“I think that the creativity of our students to think long-term, despite only working in these jobs for four years is something that’s pretty incredible and it keeps us growing.”

Jennifer Calfas, Editor-in-Chief of the Michigan Daily

Calfas says the Michigan Daily has had many significant moments throughout its history, including being the first newspaper to report the success of the polio vaccine.
