Buzz Aldrin Says Humans Should Go to Mars

Lunar pioneer hopes to inspire young readers to aim for the red planet.

A man who walked on the moon says he hopes humans will walk on Mars, and even live there someday. Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin has been advocating a Mars colony for years, and he’s sharing his vision with a new audience. Aldrin and Marianne J. Dyson have written a book called “Welcome to Mars: Making a Home on the Red Planet”. It’s published by National Geographic Kids. Aldrin tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the first challenge in colonizing Mars is getting there. The second person to walk on the moon also says he’d rather not be called “the second person to walk on the moon”. Click on the audio player above to hear the conversation.
