Essex County Council Working on 800 Kilometers of Bicycle Trails

Essex County council members are working to expand the area’s bicycle infrastructure. They are applying for a provincial grant to build a new rest area and cycling trails around the Essex Civic Centre. County Manager of Transportation Planning Jane Mustac says the funding would help a long-term plan to create about 800 kilometers of bicycle paths.

We’re about two and a half years in. We’ve done the way-finding signs that adds us up to about 150 kilometers, but actual built trails we’re at about 40 kilometers.”

-Jane Mustac

Mustac says though individual municipalities have bicycle paths, they do not run county-wide. She says she expects the trail network to be completed in about 20 years.
