Sneak a Peek at Detroit’s 36th Annual Jazz Fest

The 36th Annual Detroit Jazz Festival is the largest free Jazz event around. Hear one of this year’s bands, Steve Carrier and the Detroit Guitar Collective, perform and preview the event with the festival’s artistic director Christopher Collins on Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson. Find out more about the upcoming festival below:

  • When and Where: The Jazz Festival runs September 4th through the 7th in downtown Detroit’s Hart Plaza. General admittance is free.
  • Who: Some of this year’s featured artists include Pat Metheny, James “Blood” Ulmer & the Black Rock Experience featuring Queen Esther, and Stanley Jordan.
  • Festival Highlights: In addition to the musical performances, the Jazz Festival features educational and visual elements. Collins notes the festival community collaborates with the public school systems throughout the year to foster young musicians, who then perform on the festival’s stage.
