‘The Design in Everything’: Ruth Adler Schnee’s Illustrious Career in Textile Art

Kresge Eminent Artist Ruth Adler Schnee on family values, escaping the Holocaust, and making her name in Detroit.

The celebrated textile designer Ruth Adler Schnee is the Kresge Foundation’s 2015 Eminent Artist. At 93 years-old, Schnee the artist is still quite active and will be honored with an intimate exhibition at the Carr Center for the Arts in Detroit on Wednesday, September 2nd , at 6:00 PM.

Escaping Nazi Germany with her family for America, and ultimately finding a home in Detroit, Michigan, Adler-Schnee studied Architecture at Cranbrook, but would go on to smash through the proverbial glass ceiling with bold, vibrant, trend-setting modern designs.

Her works appears in living rooms, fitting rooms and hospital rooms, as well as inside iconic museums and skyscrapers.
