Data Driven Detroit Changes Business Structure, No Longer Nonprofit

Detroit’s “data hub” to become low-profit limited liability company.

Detroit’s so-called “number cruncher” is changing the structure of its business. The organization, called Data Driven Detroitis transitioning from non-profit status to a low-profit limited liability company, also known as an L3C. Director Erica Raleigh says the new configuration is a step in the right direction.

“We were well positioned to serve the community in the way that it needed at the time. Now, moving forward, we’re able to partner with a wider range of groups, expand our partnerships while also strengthening our existing relationships that we’ve formed over the course of seven years.”

Erica Raleigh, Director of Data Driven Detroit

Raleigh says Data Driven Detroit has worked with various universities, government bodies, and community groups, including WDET on the Detroit By The Numbers feature. The organization got started with a nearly $2 million grant given by the Skillman Foundation and the Kresge Foundation in 2008 to analyze statistics in Detroit.
