Governor Snyder Debuts ‘We Run on Brainpower’ Campaign [Video]

New initiative focuses on fostering the next generation of autoworkers.

Governor Rick Snyder is launching a new initiative to showcase opportunities in one of the state’s biggest industries. The campaign, called “We Run on Brainpower”, focuses on attracting students and residents to careers in high-tech automotive development. Spokesperson Dave Murray says Michigan needs specific kinds of employees to stay competitive in the auto-industry.

“The struggle that might be there is finding the people that will fill the roles that are needed. If we want to be the world leader, now and into the future, we need to have a workforce that’s trained and ready-to-go to step into these jobs.”

Dave Murray, Deputy Press Secretary for Gov. Rick Snyder

Murray says focusing on teachers, parents, and youth leaders is crucial to the campaign’s goal. He says a study conducted by a group called MICHauto shows only 41 percent of these so-called “key influencers” recommend a career in the automotive industry.
