“Khaleesi” by Odd Hours
With new music from Detroit’s Odd Hours on the horizon and with UK’s Kills in town this week ( I’d love to see these two share a bill), let’s snap back to Odd Hours 2014 release and rock out to an Ode to the Queen … of the dragons!
This Week’s Calendar
Charivari Detroit @ Belle Isle | Saturday and Sunday, August 1st & Aug 2nd from Noon to 10 PM
A FREE two-day dance fest on Belle Isle. Indeed. Dance, you beautiful Detroit babies. Charvari is here for you. Close your eyes, raise your arms, and give way to the entrancing master DJs before you. Charivari is a two-day barrage of Detroit-style dance music. Also, lookout for Charivari’s ticketed “Fallout Shelter” parties happening around town. Oh, what’s up with the name?
Sidewalk Festival of Performing Arts @ Artist Village on Lahser (Brightmoor / Old Redford) | Saturday, August 1st from 3 to 10 PM
As heard on WDET this week, Detroit’s Sidewalk festival of the Performing Arts incorporates site-specific visual and performative arts from mostly Detroit-based independent, alternative artists. There are tours from the DIA and a can’t miss theatrical collaboration with A Host of People called “The Harrowing” on Friday night. More about the Harrowing here.
Detroit Dance City Festival | Friday, July 31st and August 1st, evenings at various locations
Dancers and dance troupes from Detroit are joining others from around the world for a series of performances during the second annual Detroit Dance City Festival.
The Kills @ Saint Andrews Hall | Saturday, August 1st @ 8 PM
Flat-out one of the best bands in modern rock ‘n’ roll, The Kills exude all that was and is cool in the genre, sex, drugs, black leather and the kinda attitude your mama don’t like.
Dick Dale @ Magic Bag | Friday, July 31st @ 8 PM
Dick Dale set the mold for surf guitar. The virtuosic axe man is still at it, tearing across the country six-strings at a time.
