The Allied Media Conference Sparks Conversation on Communication

The four-day Allied Media Conference takes a look at content creation.

Filmmakers, broadcast personalities and artists from around the country are gathering in Detroit this weekend. It’s for the 17th annual Allied Media Conference. Officials with the convention are holding workshops, seminars and parties to promote conversations about mass communication and its impact on society. Jenny Lee is the executive director of Allied Media Projects. She says content creation can be a form of social activism.

“We say that media making can be a self-transforming and a structured transforming process which means that when we shift from being consumers of media to being producers, we take power over the narrative that defines our reality.”

Jenny Lee, Executive Director of Allied Media Projects.

Lee says water-shutoffs, global climate change and the Black Lives Matter movement are among topics at this year’s conference.
