Wayne County Commissioners approved a plan Thursday to pay retirees a court-ordered $49 million using the Delinquent Revolving Tax Fund.

Irma Clark-Coleman was one of four County Commissioners to vote against the plan. She says it is irresponsible to take the money from the special fund without a replacement plan.

“When they take money from the revolving tax fund that the administration had dedicated to the recovery plan, they gave them no excuse; they gave them nowhere to recover this,” Clark-Coleman says. “That means certain services are going to be eliminated.”

Clark-Coleman says taking away money from the Delinquent Revolving Tax Fund could keep the county from lowering its deficit. The County Executive’s Office says it will veto the commission’s decision.
