First Lady Michelle Obama heads to Detroit today to tout the importance of education beyond high school.

There was a time not long ago where some Detroit officials said students in the city should concentrate on attending a trade school because they simply would not be ready to attend college.

The First Lady will tout a different approach during a speech at Wayne State University.

White House officials say Mrs. Obama will stress that post-secondary education is critical for the nation to compete globally.

Her talk is one of more than 400 events across the nation celebrating what officials call College Signing Day.
