Sixto Rodriguez On Life After ‘Sugarman’

Detroit-based musician Sixto Rodriguez joins Stephen Henderson to discuss his creative journey and storied career.

Sixto Rodriguez, the subject of the Oscar winning documentary “Searching for Sugarman”, was born and raised in Detroit. He still lives in the city, and focuses his work and music on social issues relevant to Detroit.

“I used to love Detroit, then I liked Detroit, and now I understand Detroit,” he says. “Hope is eternal… but the issues that are out there are still the same issues from the ’70s… It’s through the music I’m able to speak on those subjects.”

Rodriguez drops in on WDET frequently as he’s in and around the neighborhood. Listen to his most recent conversation with Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson here.
