Sweep Nets Nearly 90 Alleged Gang Members

A nationwide crackdown on alleged gang activity includes the arrests of nearly 90 people.

   Federal agents have arrested almost 90 people in Metro Detroit in connection with a nationwide crackdown on gang activity.

   Officials with the U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency say federal agents combined with police in more than 280 cities over the past month-and-a-half to target people with ties to gangs.

   That includes about 90 people arrested in the Metro Detroit region who are linked to groups allegedly conducting criminal activities such as the Latin Counts, Folk Nation and the Atherton Terrace gang.

   Agency officials say the nationwide operation, known as Project Wildfire, caught 19 people wanted for murder and another 15 who were arrested on charges of sexual assault.

   Officials say they also confiscated drugs, hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and counterfeit merchandise during the operation…
