March Auto Sales Cool Off, But Better Than Expected

GM, Ford, and Nissan sold fewer vehicles last month. Fiat Chrysler and Toyota sold more.

Auto sales slowed in March. General Motors, Ford, and Nissan all sold fewer vehicles last month than they did a year earlier, while Toyota and Fiat Chrysler sold more. GM sales were off 2 percent, while Ford and Nissan sales dropped 3 percent. Toyota sales rose 5 percent, while FCA sales were up 2 percent. Overall, sales in the U.S. seemed to cool in March after a hot start in January. Michelle Krebs of Autotrader tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the industry actually did better than analysts expected in March. She also says automakers are still on track to sell 17-million cars and trucks this year.
