The Detroit Bus Company and Skillman are helping Detroit kids get to after-school programs, but funds are running out .

“I think folks want the service, the kids need it, everybody supports it. But when it comes down to putting in your credit card number, it’s a little bit of a different story.”

There are thousands of kids in Detroit Public Schools who have access to numerous after-school programs, but getting students to and from those programs is a challenge for many families. The Skillman Foundation reached out to a private tour business called the Detroit Bus Company two years ago in an effort to solve the conundrum.

The result is the Youth Transit Alliance, a pilot program has been in running in southwest Detroit. However, Andy Didirosi, founder of the YTA, tells WDET’s Travis Wright the service doesn’t have funds to continue operating much longer.
