A New Study Says Lack Of Food Access Isn’t Just A Detroit Problem


A new study says nearly two-million people in Michigan live in areas where healthy food is hard to get. The Healthy Food Access Campaign report, commissioned by The Food Trust, says those areas lack enough grocery stores and other sources of fresh food such as fruits and vegetables. And it’s not just an urban problem. Deirdre Church is the program manager of the National Campaign For Healthy Food Access. She tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller that some people in rural areas—Michigan’s farm country—also face a lack of access to healthy food.
