Back for its second year, the Freep Film Fest kicks-off on Thursday March 19th at the Fillmore Theatre in Detroit with a duo of documentaries. Throughout the weekend, at venues across Detroit, festival-goers will take in films, panel discussions and more, but on Thursday the theme is Fire and Water and the films put Michigan in focus.

The festival’s executive director Steve Byrne talked about the real stories behind those documentaries with WDET’s Travis Wright.

The conversation starts with Byrne responding to Travis’s question about the ways in which the festival evolved from last year to this weekend’ second rendition.
