MSU earns 7th seed in NCAAs, faces Georgia Friday in Charlotte. No bid for UM. Oakland and MAC schools play on.

The field is set for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Michigan State earned the 7th seed in the East Region, and will play Georgia Friday in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Spartans blew an 11-point lead in the Big Ten tournament championship game, losing to Wisconsin, 80-to-69 in overtime. The Badgers earned the top seed in the West Region. WDET’s Pat Batcheller asked WXYZ-TV sportscaster David Solano whether State can make a deep run in this year’s tournament.

Michigan did not get invited to the National Invitation Tournament after finishing 16-and-16. The Wolverines had already said they were not interested in playing in the collegeinsider.com tournament or the College Basketball Invitational. Central Michigan did make the NIT. The MAC regular season champions will play Louisiana Tech Tuesday night. Eastern Michigan will play Louisiana-Monroe in the CBI on Wednesday. Western Michigan and Oakland accepted invitations to the CIT. The Broncos host Cleveland State on Wednesday. The Golden Grizzlies host Eastern Illinois Tuesday.
