Detroit’s team of young poets return from an international poetry slam in Chicago over the weekend. WDET’s Laura Weber Davis followed the Citywide Poets from Inside-Out Literary Arts Project in Detroit as they traveled to the four-day “Brave New Voices” festival. As Laura reports, the young poets compete against one another, but the competition is not what matters to the youth in the end.

In 2013, the Detroit youth poetry slam team headed to Brave New Voices (BNV), the international youth poetry slam festival, held in Chicago, IL. Team members are participants in InsideOut Literary Arts Project's Citywide Poets after-school program and have spent years of work preparing for this opportunity.
