Churchgoers throughout the region will flood local places of worship this Easter Sunday. There are hundreds of churches of all denominations in the city of Detroit alone.

As part of WDET’s new series looking at facets of life in Detroit, as seen through the eyes of local youth poets, we hear from high school junior Kennedie King. She tells us about growing up in the church, in her poem “Church Folk.”

Kennedie King is from the Citywide Poets program with InsideOut Literary Arts Project. She spoke with WDET’s Laura Weber-Davis.
