WDET’s Crossing the Lines series is an exploration of what unites us and divides us as people and as a region. The goal of the project is to tell stories that show the diversity of people and perspectives that make up Metro Detroit by collaborating directly with residents of the cities and neighborhoods that we’re examining.

This community-first journalism aims to engage with listeners by finding them where they live and work, by talking to them about their concerns in their community and listening, really listening, to what they have to say.

Over the past few months, the WDET newsroom has spent many hours in Canton Township to see what Canton residents are thinking about and talking about at the dinner table. We talked to Canton residents and township officials, attended community meetings, and even went back to high school. We examined issues ranging from rapid development to chronic loneliness. The culmination of our reporting can be found here: www.wdet.org/crossingthelines

Now, we’re inviting Canton residents to join us at a Community Meeting on May 21st at the Canton Public Library. The event will give residents a chance to continue their conversation with us about their township. This will be an open-ended dialogue, so feel free to bring your questions, comments, and thoughts. We hope to see you there!
