Black History Listening Project 2026

Black History Listening Project

In 2025, WDET reached out to listeners for the stories of their friends, families and neighbors who shaped Detroit, the country and the world. The untold stories of Black history.

Wyatt Tate’s granddaughter told his story – which went “viral” in the 1890s. We heard from a woman about the early days of the Nation of Islam in Detroit. WXYZ TV anchor Carolyn Clifford shared her mother’s journey from domestic violence to local business leader. One listener remembered his grandmother, Congresswoman Barbara-Rose Collins.

We’re at it again for 2026! Share the stories of the people you think we should know about. The stories we choose will be produced for air and podcast by WDET reporters.
