Laura Herberg


Community Reporter

Laura came to WDET as an intern in the production department in 2010 and stuck around until she was hired as a full-time Community Reporter in 2016. She is a 2016-2017 Great Lakes Fellow for the Association for Health Care Journalists. In 2015, her story “Sundays at the Carpet House” won three regional broadcasting awards for Best Feature. She has reported for Interlochen Public Radio and her work has aired on Marketplace, The Story, Oregon Public Broadcasting and more. In 2012, she was awarded a SoundCloud Fellowship for her project, Listen to Detroit. Laura was trained in the art of radio at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies. She is a board member for Hostel Detroit, she helped establish the coworking space An Office in Detroit, and she’s a “counselor” for Radio Campfire, which hosts local listening events. In her free time she works on a podcast called Complete Me.
