Michigan representatives vie for leadership positions in their parties

Less than a week after the midterm elections, some Michigan members of Congress are entering a new contest – for leadership positions in their party.
Ann Arbor Congresswoman Debbie Dingell wrote House colleagues that a string of electoral victories across Michigan shows Democrats here have developed a winning strategy. Dingell says she’ll use that blueprint if members elect her to be the new Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus.
Dingell, who faces two challengers for the post, says she’ll ensure working families do not feel left behind by the Democrats’ message.
On the other side of the aisle — and the region — Macomb County Congresswoman Lisa McClain is vying to become Secretary of the House Republican Conference.
The second-term Congresswoman, who is a part of the GOP’s whip team, wrote colleagues that she has extensive business experience and she says she already enjoys support from the “vast majority” of the party’s House Conference.
