Detroit Today Senior Editor Producer/Journalist (Permanent Full Time Position)

WDET is looking for an experienced senior editor/producer to help us continue to grow our daily talk show, Detroit Today.

Detroit Today is a one-hour program, broadcast live from the WDET studios every weekday, hosted by Stephen Henderson, a Pulitzer Prize winning commentator and native Detroiter.  The program explores local, state and national issues and current events, and invites listeners to take part in interviews with experts, policy makers and elected officials.

As the senior editor/producer, you will oversee content of daily show production and assist in developing and managing the editorial process for all related staff and content. You will work closely with the host and senior producer to follow editorial strategies and research and create segments that engage a diverse, regional audience. The hired candidate will work in-person at WDET each morning weekdays.

This position serves in a work leadership capacity in the production of local news stories in adherence with established standards. The incumbent should possess a broad understanding of radio newscast production from story identification and development to editing and anchoring newscasts. Due to the nature of the work, the incumbent must develop and maintain effective relationships with local political, business and arts and entertainment contacts. This position is typically located in WDET-FM and reports to and receives work direction from the Program Director and News Director.

This position is designed for someone who pays close attention to current events throughout the Southeast Michigan region and is able to book engaging on-air conversations on tight deadlines.
