“Rooted” explores how humans can live aligned with nature

Climate change and the mass extinction of several plant and animal species begs us to question the ways we live in nature, says author Lyanda Lynn Haupt.

Humans now impact all parts of the globe, leaving us responsible for the fate of various plant and animal species. This leaves questions about how we can be better caretakers of our planet — especially in a society that relies so heavily on industrialization.

Lyanda Lynn Haupt is the author of the new book “Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature, and Spirit.” Haupt says working as an activist to protect natural lands led to a lot of disappointment about how we were treating American forests. “I was really disheartened by the way the natural world was commodified,” she says.
