Danny Fenster is free.

Bill Richardson, the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, says he negotiated the American journalist’s release from jail in Myanmar and will bring Fenster home to his family in Metro Detroit “over the next day and a half.”

Fenster was arrested in May while trying to board a flight to Detroit. He spent six months in jail and was facing 11 years in prison for allegedly spreading misinformation and other charges.

Richardson says he’s looking forward to reuniting Fenster with his parents and brother.

Fenster’s brother Bryan says, “we are overjoyed that Danny has been released and is on his way home — we cannot wait to hold him in our arms.”
