Takoi Chef Brad Greenhill Opens His Second Restaurant, Magnet

5 Years ago, Chef Greenhill opened Takoi to rave reviews. Magnet is different in every way, but the reviews are the same.

18 months ago, Takoi Executive Chef Brad Greenhill talked with Essential Music host Ann Delisi about the plans for his new restaurant, Magnet. His original plan for the project was to only serve items made in house and to cook everything over an open flame. As of Magnet’s opening in September of 2019, he’s staying true to both of those original ideas.

The vegetable-centric menu is a play on Mediterranean, featuring three waves of food that start with spreads paired with flatbread and small vegetable plates.

The biggest challenge so far for the new project? Sourcing the wood required to cook everything over an open flame.

From testing 18 different recipes to get the bread right to cooking over an open flame, Magnet’s approach is a unique addition to Detroit’s culinary landscape.
