Star Trek’s Riker Beams Into Motor City Comic Con

The annual Motor City Comic Com rolls into Novi this weekend. And Star Trek is transporting one of its heroes to the event, Jonathan Frakes, aka Cmdr. Will Riker of “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” He’s also directing new episodes of the sci-fi franchise.

In recent years there have been many former and current members of the Star Trek franchise who have flashed their phasers at the Motor City Comic Con.

But few have been as important to Star Trek shows, in front of and behind the camera, as Jonathan Frakes.

The actor who portrayed Commander Riker in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” has also directed the feature film adventures of the starship Enterprise.

And in the past year Frakes had helmed episodes of the new Star Trek show “Discovery,” the Trek-themed series “The Orville” and a series in production featuring the return of Sir Patrick Stewart as Star Trek’s Jean-Luc Picard.

Frakes tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter he cannot say much about the new Picard show because the studio is trying to keep the specifics as secret as an “Avengers” movie. (Frakes says, “No spoilers!” is his motto.)

But Frakes says he’s looking forward to discussing just about everything else with fans in the Motor City.
