One of the early benchmarks for Democrats running for president in 2020 is whether they support a Medicare-for-all-style universal healthcare plan.

But many Democrats on Capitol Hill—especially moderate Democrats—are focusing on something they say is a more politically palatable approach.

They want to let people as young as 50 buy into Medicare.

Michigan Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow supports lowering the eligible age for Medicare to 50-years-old. She’s one of the lead sponsors on legislation to do so.

Senator Stabenow joins Detroit Today with Stephen Henderson to speak further about the idea of expanding healthcare.
