75,000 Square Foot Athletic Complex to Open on Detroit’s Eastside

Former Red Wings practice site will host soccer teams and more

Residents on Detroit’s eastside should see the former City Sports Facility reopen sometime this year. The 75-thousand square foot complex at East Lafayette and Mount Elliott has been sitting empty for several years. Now the Detroit City Football Club plans to lease and upgrade the property for soccer teams and other athletic activities. During the 1990’s the Detroit Red Wings used the site as a practice arena. New plans include a rehabbed clubhouse with restaurant and bar. Sean Mann is co-owner of D-C-F-C.    He says leasing the property should create the most affordable and accessible athletic facility in the region.

“We’re city residents, we’re raising our families here in the city. And we really saw, not only from a business imperative but from an asset in the city, the need for this. And that’s one of the driving forces behind this” -Sean Mann, DCFC

Mann says the new Detroit City Fieldhouse will serve soccer teams and other athletically oriented businesses such as dance and cycling.
