Over the last five years rapper and producer Nolan The Ninja has been gaining momentum in Detroit and elsewhere, firmly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in hip hop. Despite being relatively young at 25 years old, Nolan’s fierce delivery and overall approach to making music embodies the spirit and rawness of rap’s golden era.

His second full length record, YEN, will be released in September via Left of Center Records. On YEN, Nolan builds on his already demonstrated ability to tell vivid stories that reflect his life experiences.

In anticipation of the new record, Nolan speaks with WDET’s Gus Navarro about the release of his upcoming album.

“It’s…a real introspective album. I think a lot of people will mess with it,” says Nolan.
