Consumers Energy Foundation and the Flint Now Foundation has announced a two million dollar commitment to the future of Flint’s youth.

The Flint Promise Scholarship program will provide funding to students in the city to help further their education after high school.

Patti Poppe is the president and CEO of Consumers Energy. She says the utility has been working in Flint for over a hundred years.

“So our promise is to stay and be a part of Flint’s success and these young people are getting a promise from Consumers Energy that they can really count on,” Poppe says.

The Community Foundation of Greater Flint will be spearheading the effort.

It hopes to launch the program by the 2018-2019 school year.
