Residents Hit by Fraser Sinkhole Will See Increase in Sewer Bills

An increase in sewer bills will help pay for the Fraser sinkhole repair.

Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller says some residents may see an increase in their sewer bills.

The rise will help pay for repairs to the sewage interceptor system that collapsed in Fraser in late December.

Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller says the county is trying to get state and federal assistance as well.

“So far we have not been successful in that but we are trying,” Miller says. “And if we get some, that can alleviate some of the amount that would be due by the rate payers. So we are trying every avenue to help our ratepayers as we can.”

Miller says residents in the 11 communities affected by the sinkhole will see the rate increase.

She says she won’t know how much bills will rise until the department assesses the full cost of the repairs.
