‘Dancing in the Street’ Conjures Summer Glow Amid Winter Months

As we head through the holiday season and the heart of winter, some people’s minds turn to warmer times, like those in summer.

And they turn to the songs that bring those warm memories, none more so than the iconic Motown song “Dancing in the Street.”

Some have said the song served as a call to riot.

But the woman who made the song a hit, Martha Reeves, the lead singer of the band Martha and the Vandellas, tells WDET’s Quinn Klinefelter that, to her, Dancing in the Street conjures images of a fellow Motown star with a very different take on the tune.
