Pugh Pleads Guilty to Criminal Sexual Conduct

Ex-Detroit Council President Pugh takes guilty plea, admits to sex with minor, faces over five years in prison.

Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh has pleaded guilty to criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

The ex-Council president is accused of inappropriate behavior with a series of teenaged boys.

Pugh says in 2003 and 2004, when he was in his 30’s, he had sex with a boy who was 14.

That’s one in a string of accusations that Pugh made sexual advances or suggestions to minors, including at least one he was mentoring.

The victim in this case, Austin Williams, says he went public to ensure Pugh is identified as a sexual predator.

“The shame that he put on myself, on the countless other young men who have dealt with him, he now has to feel that for the rest of his life,” Williams said.

Pugh vanished from Detroit after the allegations became public in 2013, resurfacing in New York.

He now faces up to 15 years in prison.
