AAA says it expects a record number of Americans to travel at least 50 miles from home during the 2016 Independence Day weekend. The auto club estimates almost 43-million people will drive, ride, fly, or take a cruise between July 1-4. Susan Hiltz is AAA’s Michigan Public Affairs Director. She tells WDET’s Pat Batcheller the state’s Fourth of July travel volume could be the highest since 2003. She also says gasoline prices are lower than they were a year ago. The group’s daily survey of U.S. gas stations shows drivers are paying an average of $2.40 per gallon in Michigan as of June 30. Click on the audio player to hear the conversation.
