Detroit author and poet M.L. Liebler has a new book of poetry that profiles an American life.

“I Want to Be Once” chronicles moments in Liebler’s travels, life and thoughts. Liebler joins Detroit Today host Stephen Henderson to discuss his latest work and the release party for the book on May 19th at the Hilberry Theater on Wayne State Unviersity’s campus.

“It’s comprised of three sections,” he says. “The first section is poetry about Detroit, my working class roots growing up here, and my experiences being from that culture, that class I guess you could say. The middle part is a collection of poems that I wrote when I was in Afghanistan in 2012. And then the last part are things I call ‘American psalms,’ and they’re on topical issues that cover everything from atheism to the Tea Party to ISIS… they’re often kind of little fragments, I like to them of them as.”
