Are Cities Getting Short Changed in Proposed State Budget?
Michigan Municipal League says funding mechanisms for communities and infrastructure are flat or short-sighted
State lawmakers are mulling over next year’s proposed budget. Governor Snyder released his funding priorities and other expenditures last week. Michigan Municipal League represents many cities and towns across the state. M-M-L State Affairs director Chris Hackbarth tells WDET’s Amy Miller that 75-percent of funding for communities comes from property taxes and state revenue sharing. He says the proposed budget doesn’t include an increase in revenue sharing from the state.
