Tour Palmer Park’s Log Cabin this Weekend

Palmer Park’s Log Cabin Day includes a hat-making contest, stained glass demos and live music.

Detroit’s Palmer Park celebrates its fourth annual Log Cabin Day this weekend. The event marks the one day each year the historic building is opened to the public. Event Chair Barbara Barefield says the inside of the cabin is not quite as rustic as its exterior.

“A Victorian home with beautiful woodwork and pocket doors and carvings, and early indoor toilet or outhouse, a great old turn of the century stove from the late 1880’s, wooden floors… There’s leaded glass, stained windows throughout.”

Barefield says during the celebration there will be live music, a hat-making contest and blacksmithing demos. It takes place on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
