Life Remodeled Renovates Osborn High School and Neighborhood

Upgrading Osborn High School and hundreds of blocks in the surrounding neighborhood.

Nearly 400 blocks of an east side neighborhood are getting an upgrade this summer. The non-profit organization Life Remodeled  is making improvements to Osborn High School on 7-Mile Road and also plans to work on some of the lots and homes in the surrounding neighborhood. Last year Life Remodeled  made improvements to Cody High School and 300 blocks on the west side. WDET’s Amy Miller spoke with the founder and CEO of Life Remodeled, Chris Lambert

  • Recipe for success:  Lambert says he believes in the future of Detroit’s neighborhoods, particularly those that have “significant need and radical hope” such as Osborn. He calls Osborn is “the most blighted neighborhood in Detroit” but says that the overwhelming hope of the students and the community are making this renovation project a reality.
  • What is happening?: The Osborn High School upgrade is focused on five main areas: the library, main office, cafeteria, gym, and the roof. Most important of these, Lambert says, is the roof which should have been fixed decades ago and is in desperate need of repair. In the wider Osborn community, he says Life Remodeled hopes to board up at least 500 homes during a six-day period along with taking all neighborhood trash to the dump and cutting back grass and weeds that cause line-of-sight and safety issues.
  • How can you help?: Lambert calls on Detroiters and Metro Detroiters to volunteer with Life Remodeled and says they are looking for 12,000 volunteers to help from August 3rd to August 8th. He says this is an opportunity to make great relationships, learn from each other, and bring about a radical transformation to one of Detroit’s communities.
