City of Windsor Looking to Make its Downtown Better for Pedestrians and Bicyclists

Windsor city officials are asking residents to suggest how to better design its downtown.

The City of Windsor is looking to make its downtown more bike and pedestrian friendly. Planners and urban consultants in Windsor are asking residents to suggest infrastructure improvements during an event on Thursday. Transportation policy analyst Andrew Dowee says downtown Windsor was not originally designed to serve college students and bicyclists.

“There’s a sense that certain streets in Windsor’s downtown—we may have a bit more space than we need, given that, you know, certain neighborhoods aren’t there. For example, we don’t necessarily have people going to the office as much downtown.”

Dowee says after the city collects feedback, it plans to conduct an environmental assessment. He says the first public meeting takes place Thursday afternoon at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre.
