Hantz Farms Asks Volunteers to Plant 5,000 Trees Saturday

Hantz Farms President Mike Score says his company’s efforts are transforming a Detroit neighborhood.

Hantz Farms is holding its second community tree-planting Saturday on the lower east side of Detroit. The for-profit company planted 15,000 trees in the area last Spring.  Officials say they’ll plant another 5,000 Saturday.  Some of those trees will be harvested for lumber once they have matured.

Hantz Farms President Mike Score sat down with WDET’s Jerome Vaughn to talk about the impact of the project.

The business generated some controversy and criticism when it began its efforts.  But Score says the neighborhood is seeing positive results.

Volunteers who would like to take part in the planting can register at the Hantz Farms website.  Score says the planting begins at 11 a.m. and runs through mid-afternoon.
