Meijer Moves Up North

Meijer opens new stores in Northern Michigan.

The Meijer retail chain is expanding its brand to Northern Michigan. The Grand Rapids-based company now operates two Meijer locations in Alpena and Manistee and officials say more supercenters in the area are in development. Matthew J. Friday is the Executive Director of the Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce. He says a Meijer store will be coming to his city in a few years.

“Meijer’s would be great for Cheboygan just because of the quality of what they offer and the fact that Meijer’s customers are very loyal to Meijer’s. And we would love to see people from throughout the area come to Cheboygan to shop.”
