The State Board of Education has named three finalists for the state Superintendent position. In a release sent out this week, the agency will interview Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent Brian WhistonOakland Schools Superintendent Vickie Markavitch, and Washtenaw Intermediate School District Superintendent Scott Menzel. There were six semi-finalists who were interviewed publicly this week. The final interviews–which will take place on March 18th— will also be public. Whoever is chosen will replace outgoing Superintendent Mike Flanagan–who steps down on July 1st–and overlap with him during June in office to ensure a smooth transition. The board says it could announce Flanagan’s successor after deliberations next week. Fifty people in Michigan and across the country applied for the position.
